The Movie Quote Contest Policies and Guidelines...Please read
- Play nicely with others:
Please don't post garbage quotes, curse excessively, start flame wars or do anything specifically for the purpose of annoying other people on this site. Try to help make this a pleasant, fun and entertaining site for people share movie trivia with each other. People causing trouble can have privileges removed or accounts disabled.
- Stick to the category:
If you get a quote right, you get to submit the quote that replaces it. Your new quote goes into the category of the quote you replaced, so submit a quote in that category. For example, if you got a Comedy quote right, replace it with a quote from another Comedy.
- Foreign quotes are to be from films produced outside the United States.
Check http://www.imdb.com to see where a movie was made. Movies produced in mutliple countries primarily for American audiences don't count. If you are going to submit a non-english quote, you should probably submit the english translation unless the quote's relevence is in the other language. For example, you don't need to translate: "Qué será, será."
- Classics should be from renowned films over 20 years old or so, but over 35 years is a better target.
- Horror movies should be true horror, monster or vampire movies, not thriller/suspense movies.
- Include hints:
When submitting a quote, be sure to add in some hints. Hints will get "leaked" out to the players as your quote ages. Enter in your most cryptic hint as your first hint, and make each hint following that one more and more generous. You can go in later and edit your hints if they aren't helping anyone, and you can even divulge some hints in the commentary for that quote.
- Post guessable quotes:
Only submit quotes that you expect that someone in the world
might actually be able to guess. Don't post something like "Ahhhhhhh!!!!", and expect someone to guess what movie it came from. You can be sure that an Administrator will remove it promptly (and might even disable your account). If you are going to post a short quote, make sure it has some character to it. Also, try to stick to movies that you might be able to find in a well stocked video rental store eventually, but if you're going to be really obscure, hint well!. Remember, the point of the game is that eventually (maybe after some good hints), someone will get your quote right.
- Don't "freebie"
Please avoid changing a quote to all "freebie"s anymore. If you don't have a new quote to put in, just leave the old one. Or, if you are a "Trusted User", use the Random Semi-Easy Quote facility.
- What's a movie?
Good question. For the purposes of this contest, movies must be over an hour in length. They must either have played on "the silver screen" or have been distributed as a single feature length production on video. Made for TV movies and mini-series are acceptable as long as they went to video. If you are going to do a made for TV movie, that's an excellent comment to post!
